Reisdetails van Panamerican Biking
Omschrijving:
Ik heb altijd gefantaseerd dat het geweldig moest zijn om de Amerika’s door te reizen: weidse landschappen, bossen, meren en canyons, zonovergoten eindeloze golvende wegen en ineens een Harley kroeg op een verlaten weg , maar ook de fascinerende vergane culturen in Midden en Zuid Amerika en de gletsjers en natuurgebieden in Patagonie.
Ik ben u 52, een mooie leeftijd om jongensdromen nog te verwezenlijken dus van mei 2012 t/m dec 2013 ga ik een fietsreis maken van Alaska (Fairbanks) tot het uiterste zuiden van Chili (Ushuaia).
Het plan:
De route die ik wil doen gaat grotendeels over de PanAmerican Highway. De start is eind mei 2012 in Alaska en via Canada (juni/juli met o.a. de parken Jasper/Banff) terug in de US langs de westkust (San Francisco, Los Angeles). In de herfst dan via Route 66 naar de Grand Canyon en daarna via Mexico door Midden Amerika naar Panama. In het voorjaar 2013 moet ik dan ergens in Ecuador verdergaan met gedeelte door Zuid Amerika eindigend in Patagonie en Vuurland.
Er is ook wel aardig wat voorbereiding aan vooraf gegaan. Allereerst een goede fiets (Koga Myata met riemaandrijving en Rohloff naaf, natuurlijk van de Vakantiefietser) en kampeer/reisspullen. Ondanks dat ik zoveel mogelijk heb bespaard kom ik op 32..35 kg bagage, incl. de fiets betekent dat ik over de 50 kg ga meeslepen. Voor diegenen die ook zoiets willen doen, veel informatie hiervoor vind je in het boekje ‘de Wereldfietser’ van Eric Schuit.
Een generale repetitie is ook aan te raden, die heb ik in april door Toscane gedaan, een week langs Pisa, Lucca, Volterra, San Gimignano en Siena met afstanden rond de 65 km. Heel mooi en erg nuttig, zo was mijn superlichte slaapzakje in Italie al veel te koud en iedere avond 2 flessen wijn is ook geen aanrader voor sportieve prestaties, hoewel erg gezellig.
De globale route is in totaal ongeveer 30.000 km, om dat te halen is de planning om ongeveer 100 km per dag te doen, met 1..2 daagjes vrij in de week. Zo niet, zijn er nog altijd bussen en treinen ;-)

Reisdetails van Panamerican Biking
Omschrijving:
Ik heb altijd gefantaseerd dat het geweldig moest zijn om de Amerika’s door te reizen: weidse landschappen, bossen, meren en canyons, zonovergoten eindeloze golvende wegen en ineens een Harley kroeg op een verlaten weg , maar ook de fascinerende vergane culturen in Midden en Zuid Amerika en de gletsjers en natuurgebieden in Patagonie.
Ik ben u 52, een mooie leeftijd om jongensdromen nog te verwezenlijken dus van mei 2012 t/m dec 2013 ga ik een fietsreis maken van Alaska (Fairbanks) tot het uiterste zuiden van Chili (Ushuaia).
Het plan:
De route die ik wil doen gaat grotendeels over de PanAmerican Highway. De start is eind mei 2012 in Alaska en via Canada (juni/juli met o.a. de parken Jasper/Banff) terug in de US langs de westkust (San Francisco, Los Angeles). In de herfst dan via Route 66 naar de Grand Canyon en daarna via Mexico door Midden Amerika naar Panama. In het voorjaar 2013 moet ik dan ergens in Ecuador verdergaan met gedeelte door Zuid Amerika eindigend in Patagonie en Vuurland.
Er is ook wel aardig wat voorbereiding aan vooraf gegaan. Allereerst een goede fiets (Koga Myata met riemaandrijving en Rohloff naaf, natuurlijk van de Vakantiefietser) en kampeer/reisspullen. Ondanks dat ik zoveel mogelijk heb bespaard kom ik op 32..35 kg bagage, incl. de fiets betekent dat ik over de 50 kg ga meeslepen. Voor diegenen die ook zoiets willen doen, veel informatie hiervoor vind je in het boekje ‘de Wereldfietser’ van Eric Schuit.
Een generale repetitie is ook aan te raden, die heb ik in april door Toscane gedaan, een week langs Pisa, Lucca, Volterra, San Gimignano en Siena met afstanden rond de 65 km. Heel mooi en erg nuttig, zo was mijn superlichte slaapzakje in Italie al veel te koud en iedere avond 2 flessen wijn is ook geen aanrader voor sportieve prestaties, hoewel erg gezellig.
De globale route is in totaal ongeveer 30.000 km, om dat te halen is de planning om ongeveer 100 km per dag te doen, met 1..2 daagjes vrij in de week. Zo niet, zijn er nog altijd bussen en treinen ;-)

Reisdetails van Panamerican Biking
Omschrijving:
Ik heb altijd gefantaseerd dat het geweldig moest zijn om de Amerika’s door te reizen: weidse landschappen, bossen, meren en canyons, zonovergoten eindeloze golvende wegen en ineens een Harley kroeg op een verlaten weg , maar ook de fascinerende vergane culturen in Midden en Zuid Amerika en de gletsjers en natuurgebieden in Patagonie.
Ik ben u 52, een mooie leeftijd om jongensdromen nog te verwezenlijken dus van mei 2012 t/m dec 2013 ga ik een fietsreis maken van Alaska (Fairbanks) tot het uiterste zuiden van Chili (Ushuaia).
Het plan:
De route die ik wil doen gaat grotendeels over de PanAmerican Highway. De start is eind mei 2012 in Alaska en via Canada (juni/juli met o.a. de parken Jasper/Banff) terug in de US langs de westkust (San Francisco, Los Angeles). In de herfst dan via Route 66 naar de Grand Canyon en daarna via Mexico door Midden Amerika naar Panama. In het voorjaar 2013 moet ik dan ergens in Ecuador verdergaan met gedeelte door Zuid Amerika eindigend in Patagonie en Vuurland.
Er is ook wel aardig wat voorbereiding aan vooraf gegaan. Allereerst een goede fiets (Koga Myata met riemaandrijving en Rohloff naaf, natuurlijk van de Vakantiefietser) en kampeer/reisspullen. Ondanks dat ik zoveel mogelijk heb bespaard kom ik op 32..35 kg bagage, incl. de fiets betekent dat ik over de 50 kg ga meeslepen. Voor diegenen die ook zoiets willen doen, veel informatie hiervoor vind je in het boekje ‘de Wereldfietser’ van Eric Schuit.
Een generale repetitie is ook aan te raden, die heb ik in april door Toscane gedaan, een week langs Pisa, Lucca, Volterra, San Gimignano en Siena met afstanden rond de 65 km. Heel mooi en erg nuttig, zo was mijn superlichte slaapzakje in Italie al veel te koud en iedere avond 2 flessen wijn is ook geen aanrader voor sportieve prestaties, hoewel erg gezellig.
De globale route is in totaal ongeveer 30.000 km, om dat te halen is de planning om ongeveer 100 km per dag te doen, met 1..2 daagjes vrij in de week. Zo niet, zijn er nog altijd bussen en treinen ;-)

[description] => Ieder heeft zijn dromen, de mijne is om Amerika door te trekken: weidse landschappen, bossen, meren en canyons, zonovergoten eindeloze golvende wegen en ineens een Harley kroeg op een verlaten weg , maar ook de fascinerende vergane culturen in Midden en Zuid Amerika en de gletsjers en natuurgebieden in Patagonie.
In 2012 heb ik al eens een sabbatical genomen om deze Panamerican route te gaan fietsen. Destijds vanaf Fairbanks (Alaska) via Canada door de prachtige Rocky Mountains naar Vancouver en langs de fantastisch mooie US Westcoast richting Californie. Helaas ben ik toen na 2 maanden en 5000km in Oregon van m´n fiets gereden.
Dus nu in 2015 is het tijd voor een herkansing :-)
In mei heb ik m´n baan opgezegd om 1,5 jaar op m´n gemak van Alaska naar Vuurland te fietsen.
Start is midden juni vanuit Deadhorse in het noorden van Alaska, het gedeelte door Alaska naar Anchorage had ik nog niet gedaan en wordt een leuke en waarschijnlijk eenzame uitdaging, honderden kilometers onbewoonde wereld afgezien van wat elanden en beren.
Vanaf Anchorage (Whittier) dan in juli een korte zee-cruise naar Vancouver (Canada heb ik 2012 al in stromende regen gefietst, dat hoeft niet meer zo nodig).
Vandaar de Panamerican route weer oppakken langs de heerlijke Westcoast (San Francisco, Los Angeles) en via Route 66 en Texas of via de Baja California naar Mexico.
Nog niet in detail gepland maar in grote lijnen volgen dan Midden Amerika, Columbia, Equador, Peru en Bolivia, Chili/Argentina en uiteindelijk de finish in Ushuaia (Vuurland).
Tijdens de voorbereidingen kwam ik via Jellie nog in contact met Leontien van Moorsel. Ze gaf een indrukwekkende presentatie hoe ze de tour de France destijds heeft gewonnen met als eten enkel wat blikken bonen. Een formidabel prestatie dat veel zegt over haar doorzettingsvermogen en talent, maar aan de andere kant, ze kon er niet van genieten omdat ze dus anorexia had. Dat heeft ze overwonnen en daarna heeft ze zich belangeloos en met veel energie ingezet om jongeren met anorexia (een onderschat probleem) te begeleiden en het ook te overwinnen. [description] => Ik heb altijd gefantaseerd dat het geweldig moest zijn om de Amerika’s door te reizen: weidse landschappen, bossen, meren en canyons, zonovergoten eindeloze golvende wegen en ineens een Harley kroeg op een verlaten weg , maar ook de fascinerende vergane culturen in Midden en Zuid Amerika en de gletsjers en natuurgebieden in Patagonie.
Ik ben u 52, een mooie leeftijd om jongensdromen nog te verwezenlijken dus van mei 2012 t/m dec 2013 ga ik een fietsreis maken van Alaska (Fairbanks) tot het uiterste zuiden van Chili (Ushuaia).
Het plan:
De route die ik wil doen gaat grotendeels over de PanAmerican Highway. De start is eind mei 2012 in Alaska en via Canada (juni/juli met o.a. de parken Jasper/Banff) terug in de US langs de westkust (San Francisco, Los Angeles). In de herfst dan via Route 66 naar de Grand Canyon en daarna via Mexico door Midden Amerika naar Panama. In het voorjaar 2013 moet ik dan ergens in Ecuador verdergaan met gedeelte door Zuid Amerika eindigend in Patagonie en Vuurland.
Er is ook wel aardig wat voorbereiding aan vooraf gegaan. Allereerst een goede fiets (Koga Myata met riemaandrijving en Rohloff naaf, natuurlijk van de Vakantiefietser) en kampeer/reisspullen. Ondanks dat ik zoveel mogelijk heb bespaard kom ik op 32..35 kg bagage, incl. de fiets betekent dat ik over de 50 kg ga meeslepen. Een generale repetitie is ook aan te raden, die heb ik in april door Toscane gedaan, een week langs Pisa, Lucca, Volterra, San Gimignano en Siena met afstanden rond de 65 km. Heel mooi en erg nuttig, zo was mijn superlichte slaapzakje in Italie al veel te koud en iedere avond 2 flessen wijn is ook geen aanrader voor sportieve prestaties, hoewel erg gezellig.
De globale route is in totaal ongeveer 30.000 km, om dat te halen is de planning om ongeveer 100 km per dag te doen, met 1..2 daagjes vrij in de week. Zo niet, zijn er nog altijd bussen en treinen ;-)
